Tip of the month:

To flatten wrinkled watercolor paper, turn upside down, dampen a clean pressing cloth or dishtowel.  Place towel on back of the paper until it arches upward.  Take towel off, place paper between 2 pieces of glass, weight it down good.  It will be flat in 2 or 3 days.

Hello – and welcome to my web site!

For over 30 years I have been an instructor of art.  I love to paint with watercolor, and I also LOVE teaching! For 14 years at my gallery and studio in Wisconsin I hosted many of the country's best watercolor instructors. I recently semi-retired to Minnesota – and as I travel, I have been hearing that my method of painting is different from most instructors and really fun! I do it by moving the paper around and letting the wet paint shade the object, as you can see in the animation. I call it “Rock and Roll”! The colors come out so rich but still transparent and clean – most people don’t even think they are watercolor paintings because of the richness of color.

I also teach the techniques of throwing paint for landscape painting, and teach collage, abstractions, pen and ink, and painting still life. I consider myself to be a creative artist with a passion for learning and sharing my knowledge.

I hope you will enjoy my artwork, and perhaps purchase an original painting, print, card or sign up for one or more of the classes I am teaching - locally or around the country.

Check monthly for new painting tips and upcoming shows.

If you need additional information email me at Punkin@KathyKovala.com.

Keep Learning!

Sincerely,
Kathy Kovala
